Pine Lake

The Shorefield Area has more play spaces than you can imagine. After hiking, biking, or horseback riding through 11 miles of paved and natural surface trails, head to the shores of Pine Lake, which offers beautiful spots for fishing, picnicking, or just relaxing. Take a ride on the historic carousel and run around the adventure playground with slides of all sizes and climbing structures for all ages.

Picnic Areas

Picnic tables and grills are available by permit from April 1 – October 31 and can accommodate up to 40 people. Restrooms and drinking fountains are operational from April to October.

Adventure Playground

When you’re ready for some more fun, head to the Adventure Playground, which includes endless climbing structures, swings, giant slides, a sandcastle, and much more. We’re sure many kids will opt to take flight on swings and gymnastic equipment, and that tots will enjoy a dedicated area filled with concrete animals and a sandbox perfect for exploration. Let the playground games begin!

Wheaton Miniature Train and Historic Carousel

All aboard! Climb into a replica of an 1863 C.P. Huntington engine and passenger cars for a scenic tour through park woods and meadows or enjoy an enchanting ride on the Herschell Spillman Company 1915 musical carousel complete with 33 jumping horses, three zebras, and two chariots.

Exercise Station

An outdoor fitness station for teenagers and adults is located across from the Adventure Playground, close to the restroom building and the Pine Lake trail entrance. The station features seven pieces of equipment that can accommodate 17 users.  The equipment provides exercises for upper, core, and lower body muscles, as well as cardiovascular endurance. The ground of the station is covered with a virgin rubber surface and there are two benches.

The fitness station is fully ADA accessible from the parking lot.

Trails

Trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Wheaton Regional Park provides 11 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, ranging from a flat paved Heart Smart trail to natural surface trails that weave through the forest and around the lake. Four miles of hard surface trails meander through the forest for walkers, children in strollers, people using wheelchairs, skaters, and bicyclists.

Pine Lake

The shores of five-acre Pine Lake offer several beautiful spots for fishing, picnicking, or just relaxing. See what wildlife you can find as the lake is stocked with several species of fish. Anglers must comply with Maryland state fishing regulations.
