Our Mission
The Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Montgomery County Division, is committed to working in partnership with the community to provide quality public safety services in a professional and timely manner. We value the attendance of all community members and visitors to the park system. We endeavor to facilitate a safe, peaceful, and joyous experience for everyone.
Who We Are
We were founded in 1954 by The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission M-NCPPC. We have grown into a diverse police department with 116 positions – 98 sworn and 28 civilian personnel. Park Police operate 24 hours per day, seven days per week, throughout the park system of Montgomery County. Our jurisdiction covers 496 square miles or over 37,000 acres of land, accommodating over 14 million visitors annually. M-NCPPC property includes 420 parks, 269 miles of trails, 276 playgrounds, swimming pools, campgrounds, golf courses, horse stables, soccer stadiums, and stream valleys. We patrol parkland 24 hours a day by car, foot, ATV, or bicycle. Our Special Operations Section Officers train for horse-mounted, motorcycle, and marine patrols. The Community Services Section interacts with the community through Crime Prevention, Environmental Design, and Volunteer programs. The Investigative Services Unit provides undercover, intelligence, and recruitment services.
