Project Description

This project proposes to renovate the western half of Maplewood-Alta Vista Local Park. The park is located on Alta Vista Road west of Rockville Pike in the Bethesda/Pooks Hill area of the County. The park features a variety of amenities including tennis and basketball courts, a playground, and a softball/soccer field overlay. An activity building is currently leased to a private entity. The intent of the project is to make infrastructure improvements to the park including:

  • The existing multi-basketball court will be reduced to one full-size basketball court with two end hoops and two side hoops.
  • An accessible view area with benches is proposed from the basketball court to the west side of the existing field.
  • A shelter is proposed between the playground and the full-size basketball court.
  • One of the tennis courts that is closest to the playground will be converted to a multi-purpose court to incorporate a full-size basketball court and a soccer court with fence around.
  • One continuous accessible walkway will be provided between Alta Vista Road and Linden Avenue and connect to the parking lot, PAB building, the courts, the shelter, the playground, and the field viewing area.
  • The parking lot will be improved to include two accessible parking spaces and an enclosure for three porta-potties
  • A drinking fountain is proposed outside of the existing PAB building.
  • Three stormwater management facilities are proposed along the existing driveway and parking lot to treat the runoff of the park.
  • ADA accessibility improvements
  • Landscape enhancements

*Renovations to the athletic fields are excluded from this project.
