Greenbriar Local Park is a beautiful 25-acre park, new in 2016, that offers an excellent blend of green space and recreational opportunities and equipment. Interpretive signage and custom playgrounds highlight the park’s theme, “The Journey of  Raindrop.” Visitors can learn about watersheds, Maryland geography, and wildlife of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay areas while they’re playing, relaxing or getting some exercise. In addition to a great new soccer field, volleyball and basketball court, playgrounds and picnic areas, more than 16.5 acres of the 25-acre park are undisturbed, including more than 15 acres of forest.

Park Features

  • Two themed playgrounds
  • Younger kids (ages 2-5) will love the “Cap’n Crabby” fishing boat, a push-and-play “Sounds of the Chesapeake” board, Chesapeake fish spring riders, and a poured-in-place rubber surface that’s easy on the feet (and designed to look like a Chesapeake Bay beach), and more!
  • Older kids (ages 5-12) can explore, climb, jump, slide, swing and more on the Piedmont Play Fort.
  • Regulation soccer/football field. Dedicated to William H. Hussmann, Jr., former Chair of the Montgomery County Planning Board and Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission
  • A large stone and cedar pergola with seating
  • A stone and cedar picnic shelter with four 8-foot-long tables
  • 2/3-mile paved trail that loops around the perimeter of the park
  • Grass volleyball court
  • Single basketball/multi-use court

The Travilah area was identified in the 1998 Park Recreation and Open Space Plan (PROS) as having some of the highest unmet recreational needs in Montgomery County. But area residents wanted the park to keep the rural feel of the neighborhood, too. The M-NCPPC acquired the park land in 1992.
